The Suzanne H. Arnold Gallery at Lebanon Valley College is hosting a workshop on architectural photography entitled “Architecture, Photography and Memory”. Photographer Matthew Christopher will be conducting the workshop including exploration of historic photography of architecture, and the currently popular documentary photography of abandoned sites of historic value. Christopher has gained notoriety for his images of abandoned structures and his efforts to preserve the history of America’s industrial and architectural history.
The workshop will be on Saturday, February 15th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the college in Annville, Pa. Further information and registration is available at http://www.lvc.edu/gallery. There is a fee for the program – $30 for gallery members, $35 for non-members and $15 for LVC students. You can also contact the gallery at (717) 867-6445.
The workshop falls during an exhibition of the work of Eugene Atget and Berenice Abbott which documents Paris and NYC respectively during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Their documentation of urban architecture and lifestyle helped spark the documentary / street photography concept and viewing the gallery exhibit is an excellent opportunity to see the original work.
