Thursday, February 23rd at 5 p.m., there will be a lecture entitled “Artists Look Like This”: Arnold Newman’s Portraits, at the Zimmerman Recital Hall at Lebanon Valley College. The lecture will be presented by Shannon Egan, Ph. D., Director of the Schmucker Art Gallery at Gettysburg College. Egan is an Assistant Professor of art and art history at Gettysburg, and a specialist in the history of photography.
The lecture will be based on the work of photographer Arnold Newman, whose images are currently on display at the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery at Lebanon Valley College. The Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery is recognized as one of the region’s foremost spaces in which to experience the achievements of internationally renowned artists and art movements of yesterday and today. Housed in a former church in the medieval-revival style, the Gallery is host to five to six exhibitions a year, with loans from major national and regional art museums, galleries, and collectors.
The lecture is open to the public and is free. The Zimmerman Recital Hall is a part of the Suzanne H. Arnold Gallery space. This is an opportunity to view the exhibit is you have not yet done so, or to see it again and gain additional insight into the work of this icon of American photography.
